Sneak Peek Sunday - All My Tomorrows

Image
ABNA Quarter SEMI-Finalist! Welcome to the Sneak Peek Sunday for April 14th, 2013! Today I am sharing a snippet from my contemporary romance All My Tomorrows (blurb below). Last month, it was selected as one of the 500 Quarter-finalists (of 10,000 entries!) in the Amazon Breakthrough Novel Award competition! This is in addition to being voted a Top 10 Romance Novel of 2012   and Austenprose naming yours truly  "Debut Author of the Year" for 2012! UPDATE:  Tuesday, April 16th, Amazon announced that All My Tomorrows has been selected as one of the 25 SEMI-FINALISTS in the Amazon Breakthrough Novel Award competition! I n this excerpt, despite all her efforts to avoid him, Alice has found herself once again thrown into the company of movie star Peter Walsingham as he is filming in New Orleans, and he has joined her at a patio bar in the French Quarter one hot August night...      Nothing felt right. Nothing felt real. Conversation...

#ABNA Semi-finalist!?! For Once I Am Speechless...

Image
Welcome to the Sneak Peek Sunday for April 21st, 2013! For anyone who read last week's Sneak Peek Sunday , I was excited enough to have All My Tomorrows selected as a Quarterfinalist in the Amazon Breakthrough Novel Award contest. I had it all figured out. You see, I had just finished production on the audiobook for Pulse and Prejudice (and it sounds amazing!), so I was naturally anxious to get started on the audiobook for All My Tomorrows as well. Of course, as long as it's a contender in the ABNA contest, I can't do anything with it; so I have been waiting patiently for April 16th for it to be eliminated so I could go forward with auditions for the audiobook. The best laid plans of mice and men! You could have knocked me over with a feather when I found out that All My Tomorrows had actually been selected one of the FIVE Semi-finalists in the Amazon Breakthrough Novel Awards contest (out of 500 Quarterfinalists - and 10,000 entries overall)! Plus, it received ...

Six Sentence Sunday

Image
for January 13th, 2013. As with last week's Six Sentence Sunday , in honor of its nomination for the P&E Readers' Poll Romance Novel of 2012 , today I present an excerpt from All My Tomorrows. In this scene, Alice shares a duet with Peter....   Somehow a microphone materialized in Alice's hand, but – too stunned to move – she couldn’t bring it to her mouth. After singing the refrain, Peter began the second verse, and she forgot he was acting. She might have stood there transfixed if he hadn’t squeezed her hand to remind her to sing. When she began, the audience cheered, perhaps vicariously joining her on stage; but then they all disappeared. She couldn’t see anyone, she couldn’t hear anyone except Peter. He pulled her closer to him, and it pulled at her heart as well. He kissed her hand, closing his eyes and letting his lips linger until he sang again... Thanks so much to the readers who nominated All My Tomorrows for the P&E Readers' Poll R...

for January 6th, 2013. Thanks so much to the readers who nominated All My Tomorrows for the P&E Readers' Poll Romance Novel of 2012 ! In honor of its nomination, here is an excerpt from All My Tomorrows . In this scene, Alice only thinks she is kissing the right man... Alice closed her eyes as Rich kissed her again, and at his lips urging, she opened her mouth. She put her arms around his neck, and his tongue touched hers. Peter . Her eyes flew open. Peter? What the hell? Why would I think of Peter while I am kissing Rich? I really like Rich. And I can’t stand Peter. It’s probably because we were just talking about him. Yeah, that’s it . Her confused brain distracted her from her present situation until a hand on her breast alerted her to the tongue in her mouth, and she broke the kiss and stepped back to face a red-faced, panting Rich.... Our Sexy Thanksgiving? Not really, but I DO have a Special Announcement for My Sexy Saturday

Image
Gentle Readers, How are you feeling today? Alas, I feel like crap. I have had what I think must be the flu all week. How is it possible for eyeballs to sweat? Nevertheless, after being scarce not just on my blog but from social media in general while I wrote one novel, edited another, and worked 45-50+ hours at my soul-sucking day job, I was determined to participate in this week's  "My Sexy Saturday" blog hop! The theme this week: "Our Sexy Thanksgiving" "We know what you’re thinking. Thanksgiving is about families. What’s more sexy than family? After all each started with a story about a man and a woman finding each other and deciding on a family. Think of all the wonderful romances that happen at this time of year. You know the ones we’re talking about. Sister brings home friend, brother falls for friend and on and on. "So this week show us all the characters love family. Maybe it’s someone who doesn’t have one and suddenly they find them...

Six Sentence Sunday

Image
for January 20th, 2013. Once again, as with last week's Six Sentence Sunday , in honor of its being voted a Top 10 Romance Novel of 2012 in the P&E Readers' Poll , today I present another excerpt from All My Tomorrows. And no romance novel would be complete without a little conflict...        Peter crashed into her office with such violence the door hit the wall. “Are you out of your f#¢k*ng mind?”       “Uh – Door. Closed. There for a reason.” Alice had never seen him so angry before – not even on screen – with his eyes bulging and his nostrils flaring and his fist twisted around what must have at one point been the script – and it pleased her immensely.       Her calm manner only provoked him, and he threw the mutilated script on her desk. “Are you insane?”       “If you do not calm down, I will have to ask you to leave.”       He turned aw...

Sneak Peek from Modern Twist on Austen, 99 cent Sale Ending Soon, Plus a Personal Appeal

Image
Good Morning, dear readers! Actually, it's afternoon. While I have been on vacation from my soul-sucking day job, I have taken to sleeping in until eleven! I must say, it's quite lovely. Alas, last night I had one too many chocolate martinis (who ever thought such a thing was possible!) and awoke with a terrible headache. Once upon a time, there was a little blog hop called 6 Sentence Sunday , but almost as soon as I started participating, it stopped! Fortunately, other authors picked up the slack and created Sneak Peek Sunday , so I joined them for awhile as well. Now I can empathize with the organizers of 6 Sentence Sunday because I have been so busy being a writer (when not working 9, 10, 11 hours a  day) that I had to cut back on social media, including my regular blog posts (136 in 2013 to 45 in 2014). Now I did not officially sign up for Sneak Peek Sunday since I knew I wouldn't get my excerpt up in time, and plus I am making a personal appeal, but I will ad...

Scott Cairns' Amazon Breakthrough Novel Interviews

Image
Author Scott Cairns , a fellow Semi-finalist in the Amazon Breakthrough Novel Awards (in the General Fiction category) for his novel Silver , is biding his time awaiting our fate by interviewing other contenders, including yours truly!  He asked me about myself, my writing, and my own ABNA Semi-finalist, All My Tomorrows . ... ABNA: The Rest of the Field (Romance) By Scott on April 27, 2013 Continuing my obsession with the Amazon Breakthrough Novel Awards, I thought I would continue by checking out the rest of the opposition in the other categories. Bad idea….. I’ve thrown stuff at the wall and uttered some unforgivably bad words so this free publicity is really just atonement. I would like to thank Colette Saucier for her time to complete this interview. Good luck in this round but if we meet in Seattle….the gloves are off! In keeping with this digital world of brevity, tell us about yourself in no more than 50 words.  I am married with three grown daughte...

Happy Mother's Day and Happy Birthday to My Muse!

Image
I want to wish a warm and wonderful Mothers' Day to all the amazing moms out there. I hope you all have a great day.  I will be spending the day with my youngest daughter in the lovely house she just bought on a lake, and we are expecting perfect weather. Today is special for another reason as well. Many of you know my daughter Gabrielle (on the left in this photo) has been my muse, helping me every step of the way since I began this writing venture, and today is her birthday as well! Were if not for her inspiration, I never would have written All My Tomorrows (now expanded and republished as The Proud and the Prejudiced) , which not only helped me acquire a New York literary agent but also was selected a 2013 Amazon Breakthrough Novel Award Semi-finalist ! Because she lives in Manhattan, I cannot be with her today (although my youngest daughter and I will be visiting next month), but in her honour, I am re-posting a blog I wrote for Austen Authors last year. Happy birthda...

Click Here All My Tomorrows is losing the ratings war. For headwriter Alice McGillicutty, the past year has had enough drama. Her mother passed away, her last relationship ended in disaster, and now poor ratings are catapulting her long-running soap opera toward cancellation. For comfort and creative inspiration, she begins reading The Edge of Darkness, an old melodramatic paperback she found among her mother’s belongings. When scandal rips Hollywood bad boy Peter Walsingham off the tabloids and into her studio, Alice doubts the small screen is big enough for his ego – or his entourage. In their battle of pride and prejudice, will Peter’s vanity and arrogance compel Alice to write him out of her script, or can she find a role for him in All My Tomorrows? This contemporary romance not only follows Alice and Peter as they wre...

What Can I Say?

Image
Jane Austen's Writing Environment  When I began researching and writing Pulse and Prejudice , I stopped cooking and cleaning. You see, I have what in the world of the arts is known as a “day job” (as in “Don’t quit your..."). Until I am able to live my dream of being a writer by profession, I work forty to fifty hours a week at said “day job,” the stresses of which often force me to indulge my love of wine and cheese and, on occasion, the BBC production of Pride and Prejudice . (Yes, I will watch all five hours in one sitting.) Once I jumped into the Pulse and Prejudice project, it literally (pun only slightly intended) was another full-time job. With only a finite number of hours in the day – and despite the benefits of chronic insomnia – if I were going to pursue this novel and keep our house out of foreclosure, something had to give: cooking and cleaning. We attempted to hire maid service companies to take care of the cleaning, but two different c...
